Practical Beekeeping for Beginners

PRACTICAL BEEKEEPING FOR BEGINNERS - Spring 2018  

 

An 8+ week class, including classroom work, field day(s) and textbooks will be offered Spring 2018, Cost: $100 per individual or family unit.

When:

Thursday evenings, (not consecutive) plus a field day
Feb 1, 8, 22; March 1, 8, 22, 29; April 5, 12, 2018
From 7:00 — 9:00 pm
Where:

Meeting Room, Lynchburg Development Center
147 Mill Ridge Road Lynchburg, Virginia
You will learn about:

Equipment & supplies needed
Assembly of hive components
The history of beekeeping
The best ways to acquire bees
Biology and life cycle of honeybees
Seasonal colony management
Techniques for managing pests and predators
Local floral (forage) sources

Hands-on establishment of new colonies

$100.00 Tuition includes:

Classroom instruction
3 textbooks
CD and Course notebook with lecture printouts & additional resources
1 year’s membership in Piedmont Beekeepers Association
Field day: colony installation & inspection demo (exact date T.B.A.)

Advance Registration is required
Class size will be limited to 23 family units (spouse &/or children over 9 yrs)
