July17, 2025 “Bring Home a Ribbon: Preparing Honey for Show”

Your honey is the best there is, right? Think it’s good enough to win a blue ribbon? This year the Bedford County Fair has expanded its honey show eligibility area to include Campbell County. So, if you are interested in showing off your honey, you will want to attend our July meeting. Ann Zudekoff, Master Beekeeper, honey judge, and winner of a multitude of ribbons for her honey and bee products will give the club a presentation on how to prepare your honey for show.

A little about Kathy Fell:

I am a retired Electrical Engineer, who lives in the woods in Bassett Virginia. I have a large "wildlife habitat" instead of a yard.  I moved here in late 2007. I am a past President and current Vice President of the Southwestern Piedmont Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists. I chair the Southern Piedmont region's "Plant Virginia Natives" campaign.

A little about Joe May, DVM:

I have a BS in Biology from Va Tech and I graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1976. I sold my practice in 2011 but still practice part time. I got interested in Honey Bees and Honey Bee Medicine about 5 years ago and I currently have 6 hives in my backyard plus several others in other locations. My wife and I have been married since 1972 and we have 4 children and 9 grandchildren.
